Greetings from the galaxy. In a continuation of its mission, the Star Trek Convention in Las Vegas has been announced by Star Fleet Command for July 31 to Aug. 3, 2014, at The Rio Suites. Many of your favorite members of Star Fleet will be there: William Shatner, Avery Brooks, Karl Urban, Scott Bakula, Kate Mulgrew, Colm Meaney, Walter Koenig and Nichelle Nichols, that splendiferous Uhura, and others.

The Saturday night gala will feature The Nevada Pops 45 piece orchestra led by Nevada’s own Richard McGee. You know the music will be Star Trek through the years and yes, you are encouraged to dress in costume as always! The composer of the music from Star Trek: The Next Generation, Ron Jones, will also be a welcome guest and will conduct some of his amazing work.

This is the first year that musical entertainment will be presented by the Star Trek version of The Rat Pack, “Five Year Mission.” They have produced three critically acclaimed albums, perform everything from power-pop to rap and punk and will undoubtedly present a stellar performance. Best yet, admission is free.

If you are feeling a little dry from all your interplanetary travel, you can relax at Quark’s bar for a drink or some fabulous food from their intergalactic menu. They have a great drink list with everything from Saurian Brandy and the Orion’s Belt to the James Tea Kirk and Chaotica’s Death Ray. There is something for everyone, no matter where your home planet is located.

Star Trekamania will be everywhere with great art on display, vendors, artists, even henna tattoos of a Trek insignia. That, along with your favorite stars and fellow Trekkers guarantees this event as a blast.
