Matt Goss at Caesars Palace
Nightclubs have largely replaced lounges as the preferred party-all-night places in Las Vegas’ casinos. But when you pair the right lounge with the right performer, the result is a classic Vegas-only experience that should not be missed.
Matt Goss may not be a household name in America but he’s built a formidable fan base in England and Europe over the past 20 years. His debut album “Push,” went 7-times platinum and produced 13 top-5 hits. He’s sold out the Royal Albert Hall and headlined Wembley, drawing 70,000 to his high-energy show.
The Caesars Palace Lounge, now dubbed The Gossy Room in his honor, is a lot more intimate than Wembley, and much better suited to the debonair vocalist’s Rat Pack-infused vocal stylings – never more obvious when he interprets two Sinatra classics in a way that is both reverent and up-to-date.
Backed by a nine-piece band and a sexy troupe of burlesque dancers billed as The Dirty Virgins, Goss blends covers of crowd-pleasing songs with several of his own hits (“I Owe You Nothing,” “When Will I Be Famous,” “Life You Imagine”), and commands the stage with the comfort and charisma of a seasoned pro.
It’s a two-hour show that hits the ground running and rarely slows down. Dancing in the audience is not only allowed, it’s pretty much unavoidable.
