Top 5 Father’s Day Activities
With Father’s Day approaching, a trip to Vegas would be a very special way to celebrate! But what if there were some truly unique guy-type experiences that dad would enjoy that made the trip even more special? Is dad a laid-back sorta guy or an all-out hell-raiser – or maybe somewhere in between? Whatever his personality type, Here’s a hot list of suggestions for dad:
- Little boys often play with toy bulldozers and excavators and some never outgrow their love of heavy equipment. Here is a chance to operate some of those big rigs for real! Sort of a sandbox for big boys, Dig This! offers safety training and orientation before moving on to warm-up exercises and finally to activities where you can dig, excavate and pile up dirt to your heart’s content. Seriously…they don’t offer this at Disneyland. (3012 S. Rancho Drive).
- Is dad a golfer? – The Las Vegas area offers more than 20 golf courses for every type of player including some top-ranked courses designed by the best! Or, if dad doesn’t take golf too seriously, there is always Mini-golf! Try King Putt Indoor Mini-Golf at 7230 W. Lake Mead Blvd. With a jungle morphing into an underwater scene, black lights and sensor-activated interactive objects, it’s an adventure in and of itself! Or, if dad is a rock and roll fan, try Kiss Monster Mini-Golf, just off the strip at 4503 Paradise Rd.
- Is dad into crime – or an armchair detective? Does he never miss ‘Cops,’ ‘Forensic Files’ or any of the thousand similar shows on television? Now dad can be a crime scene investigator with the CSI Experience at the MGM Grand, an interactive exhibit based on the TV show. Cast members from the show welcome guests into the exhibit via videotaped messages and participants can identify and record evidence, visit the labs and autopsy rooms and build a case against the ‘perp.’ For another take on bad guys vs. good guys, The Mob Museum tells the story of organized crime through history, in movies and through the eyes of law enforcement officials. The museum is appropriately located inside the historic former federal courthouse and U.S. Post Office at 300 Stewart Avenue, near the Fremont Street area.
- Is dad a race fan? Las Vegas Motor Speedway offers the Richard Petty Driving Experience where he can ride along in a NASCAR race car for a few laps OR climb into the driver’s seat himself. (7000 Las Vegas Blvd.) VORE (Vegas Off Road Experience) is the ultimate ‘get down and dirty’ adventure tour, teaching people to drive off-road vehicles. (12801 U.S. highway 95, in Boulder City) And for the less adventurous, there is go cart racing at Fast Lap Nevada, 4288 S. Polaris #109, and Las Vegas Mini Gran Prix, 1401 N. Rainbow Blvd.
- Is dad a thrill-seeking, dare-devil type? If he is a certified diver, he can dive with the sharks at Mandalay Bay. If dad doesn’t have a weak stomach, he can take a Top-Gun type ride with a real fighter pilot at Sky Combat Ace, 888-494-5850. If he likes guns, try Machine Guns Vegas; The Firearms Experience, at 3501 Aldebaran Ave.
