Electric Daisy Carnival
The third week of June (June 17-23) is when one of the biggest events in Las Vegas. And that’s saying something. The event is EDC: Electric Daisy Carnival. This event draws a couple hundred thousand people from all over the world and brings together some of the world’s most renowned DJ’s all into one place. Anyone in the EDM (electronic dance music) music scene knows what this is. It’s one of the biggest events of the year for the music genre as a whole. And it’s located in one of the biggest party cities in the world. It’s a potent equation. It’s the Mecca for any EDM fan. It’s truly a bucket list affair.
Talk about needing a BIG venue – from sunrise to sunset each day EDC packs the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The venue itself is a solid fifteen miles due north of the heart of the Strip, quite a jaunt. If you have tickets to EDC, the best way to get to and from is to also buy the accompanying shuttle pass. Not doing so would be somewhat of a calamity, only due to the logistics of sorting out rides each of the day. It’s well worth it even at $80 just to have one less thing to worry about while you’re partying. The shuttle pass will provide transportation to and from the venue back to any number of hotels at the Strip for the duration of the event. You can take a cab in a pinch, especially if you have a full cab’s worth of people in your group, in which case you wouldn’t be at the mercy of the shuttle schedule and crowds. But the shuttle is without a doubt the easiest. And you can make friends!
In 2012, EDC in Vegas drew over 300,000 attendees over a three-day span. Well over a hundred different DJ’s and artists performed over that timeframe. Ultimately, Insomniac Events, the firm in charge of organizing the event, set a record for the largest structure of a staged event in the USA. There are many stages, with the main Kinetic Field stage being the largest and grandest, truly a sight to behold.
Hotel prices soar during this period so book early and don’t be afraid to split a room with your pals. Don’t forget to buy glowing and neon accessories, animal hats, and other odd clothes to fit the bill when attending. And the last, most important tip for any EDM festival, don’t forget to drink lots and lots of water. Carry a water bottle with you at all times. Every year some attendees fall victim to dehydration (remember, we’re in the desert!). Otherwise, party on and have fun!
