If you head over to the Cromwell for dinner at Giada, just to catch a glimpse of the restaurant’s gorgeous owner, no one would blame you. But even if the place is not graced by the lovely presence of Giada De Laurentiis, you’ll still be glad you came.

The author and Food Network star’s first restaurant features a menu that is sure to delight fans who have watched her on television for years: traditional Italian cuisine with a California twist.

The expansive menu includes several signature dishes, such as Lemon Spaghetti, Roasted Chicken for Two Caccitore-style, Chicken Marsala Meatballs, a bone-in Tuscan Ribeye, and fresh Lemon Ricotta Cookies for dessert. Of course there’s also an array of pasta dishes, from lobster ravioli to tortellini with pea pesto. The “pizzettas,” tiny pizzas are ideal appetizers. Order sizes can be customized through the interactive menu, accessible via iPad.

The wine list combines new and old world selections, but it’s the signature cocktails that will get the attention of movie buffs, as several are named after movies produced by Giada’s grandfather, Dino De Laurentiis. What better way to start an evening than with a tangy Barbarella?

If you haven’t been to the Cromwell yet, or only remember the place when it was called Bill’s or the Barbary Coast, you may be trying to picture where inside this boutique hotel-casino they would find the space for a new restaurant that seats 300 people. The answer is one escalator ride up, into a space that used to be part of the property’s parking garage. From that vantage point diners can enjoy the Bellagio fountain show across the street.

Of course, most celebrity chefs aren’t in the kitchen all the time, but Giada was there on opening night, not only cooking but serving as well. Maybe, if you’re very lucky, the lady whose name is on the door will deliver your entrees.
