Hakkasan
Hakkasan is probably the biggest and most fancy nightclub in Vegas at the moment. Opened in the spring of 2013, this club is located in the MGM and occupies something like 75,000 square feet of space. During peak capacity, the venue requires nearly 500 workers to operate the venture. Serving as a Cantonese dining facility by day, the main draw amongst the younger crowd is the nightclub it transforms to when the sun goes down. The debate over which Vegas club is best will rage on forever, but it is hard to think of a club that is currently drawing more buzz than the mighty Hakkasan.
Hakkasan as a brand has existed in major metropolitan party areas around the world prior to landing in Vegas, so it is no stranger to the crazy vibrancy of nightlife and the business of creating a riveting environment for all patrons. Both a restaurant and a nightclub, the venue has made huge moves to cement its spot as a steadfast Vegas hotspot in very short order. The club has inked deals with both Tiesto and Calvin Harris for respective residencies at the venue. Big names such as Afrojack and Deadmau5 commonly appear to perform as well. (If you have to ask who these top club DJ’s are, you might be a little behind the times…club DJ’s are a hot commodity, especially in Vegas).
The club itself boasts a specifically crafted layout made so that you can see the DJ from almost any vantage point. Furthermore, the multiple levels of the facility add new dimensions to the club-going experience. The club really pushes the envelope on the sizing, but without sacrificing that x-factor: the aura, the energy, the intimacy.
To retreat from the hot and sweaty melting pot of a dance floor, consider the Ling Ling Lounge, a partitioned zone that provides cushioned seating in the trademark hot fuchsia and turquoise blue backdrops. Located on the third floor, it is simply what they themselves describe as an “oasis,” and can be found merely one level above the main dining facility. Yes, that’s right, Hakkasan is after all a restaurant during daylight hours. Come here to sit and rub elbows with other socialites, letting your feet rest a bit and making your presence known.
The ambiance may be a bit overwhelming for an unseasoned partier, but for anyone who has made the rounds in the Vegas nightclub scene and wants to explore a conquer a newer and bigger venue, Hakkasan presents a viable, worthy challenge. The only complaints tend to be about the copious amounts of stairs to get anywhere and the general crowdedness, but these come with almost any club-going experience these days, at least in the mega-club category. Hit the place now while it’s red hot.
