Sharks in Downtown Vegas
The Golden Nugget pool is not only one of the best downtown landmarks, but it is one of the most prominent pool options in all of Vegas. A large part of the allure is the eye-capturing spectacle of the shark tank, with a water slide winding in and out of it from a peak of thirty feet in the air. All pool-goers are privy to this adrenaline rush of an amenity if they choose to partake. This menacing slide slithers down in a tube straight through the shark enclosure wherein the slider is fully surrounded by aquarium momentarily.
The aquarium itself is over 200,000 gallons of water and hosts a wide range of sea creatures, although “The Tank” is most renowned for its shark exhibit. For those who don’t dare enter the pool and slide, there are dry and guided tours of the shark tank occurring Thursday through Sunday starting at 3:30pm and which cost $30 per person. This is a great alternative for those who do not wish to dunk in the pool or zoom down the slide itself.
Those who seek to escape the crowds below can find solace in The Hideout, which is a secondary pool up on the third floor for guests 16 and up. Look down off the infinity pool and glance at the shark tanks and aquarium if you can find a good vantage point. This is a lesser-known relaxation area for guests to hang around the Golden Nugget pool in a slightly more secluded fashion.
The pool itself snakes in and near the H2O bar. So slide on down into the pool, say hello to the sharks on the way down, and then grab a celebratory drink at H2O bar.
