Sprinkler Sprint
This June 7th, there will be a great and fun way to escape the Vegas heat and get exercise all at once. You may think that exercising outside in the Vegas heat is a terrible idea, but if you include the element of water it can become a fun and interesting prospect. Join a group of friends, coworkers, whatever, and partake in the annual Sprinkler Sprint, a 5k (a little over three miles) run amidst a course of water obstacles and other elements much in the same vein as a water park.
The run itself departs on Fremont Street early in the morning so as to avoid the midday heat. Runners are subject to a wide range of hydraulic torment and fun all at the same time, such as a tunnel of mist, a water gun blast zone, and a soaking squirt gun zone. These may sound a bit scary, but in the hot June sun these steps will probably be a pleasant task.
Tickets for children under the age of six are free, tickets for children 6-13 are $15, and a single adult ticket is $50, but this ticket gets you various merchandise and garb along with the event participation, as well as entrance into a pre-party and an after-party downtown. A six-pack of adult tickets is $180, putting a single ticket price at $30, which is a drastic discount. The event really encourages group participation. Included in the ticket price is an event t-shirt and “swag bag.”
For a fun community-based event, the Sprinkler Sprint should be a great mid-summer option for socializing and fitness. Put on some (water-resistant) running shoes, go slide around in the grass, and maneuver your way through an onslaught of beach balls and umbrellas. Once nearing the finish line, jump onto the slip and slide through to completion! Then, grab a shaved ice, collect your t-shirt, and hang out with other community members of the Downtown Runners organization.
