No one associates the word ‘small’ with Hooters, whether they’re discussing the portion size of their famous wings or the most publicized attributes of the Hooters Girls. But the company’s first foray into the hotel-casino business is certainly small by Vegas standards – the off-Strip property has less than 700 rooms and a 30,000 square foot casino. You could fit six Hooters-sized resorts inside the MGM Grand.

The casino decor will seem familiar to anyone who’s been in one of the restaurants; tin ceilings and cedar wood, with lots of orange and Florida-casual touches. The gaming floor boasts 670 slot and video poker machines and 32 table games, as well as more than 200 Hooters Girls employed as cocktail and restaurant servers, bartenders, dealers and lifeguards (which has proven to be quite a draw for the hotels’ two pools, both open 24/7).

Dining options, besides the obligatory Hooters restaurant, include the Midwestern-style tavern Pete & Shorty’s, the Bait Shoppe for ice cream and Krispy Kreme donuts, and the more upscale Mad Onion. There are also two entertainment options – local bands performing in the Saloon bar and lounge, and comedy hypnotist Kevin Lepine.

While the brand’s racy reputation will not appeal to everyone, Hooters Casino Hotel should be tempting to travelers who prefer a more intimate resort. Plus the rooms are cheap and you’re within easy walking distance of the MGM, Tropicana, New York New York and Excalibur resorts.
