The Moment: Mayweather vs. Maidana
Boxing fans are all hyped and the money will be flying to the betting booths over the upcoming Mayweather-Maidana fight for the WBA Welterweight World Championship title. The big match will be on Saturday, May 3, at the Grand Garden Arena at MGM Grand. There are two options for viewing the fight, tickets to the live event and the closed-circuit viewing from the MGM Grand Ballroom, which is being broadcast on Showtime. Either way, it promises to be a sold-out event and a lot of money riding on the results.
Floyd “Money” Mayweather Jr., the holder of eight world titles, and five-division world champ titles, currently stands undefeated. Marcos “El Chino” Maidana, the Argentine boxer, has a 35-3 record of wins and 31 KOs to his credit, compared to 26 K0s for Mayweather out of 45 fights.
Mayweather’s championship fights are epic and this one should be unforgettable. This should be a great match as one powerhouse hitter goes against the footwork, experience and adaptability of the other. Mayweather, standing one inch taller and with a 3-inch advantage in reach, may be the choice of many boxing aficionados but Maidana has proven himself a tough fighter and devastating as a puncher who can also take a hit. Mayweather, a dedicated jabber, is smart at anticipating the moves of his opponent and stepping out of the way. In league with Rocky Graziano and Tyson, don’t discount stamina and ambition in the ring.
Tickets are not cheap at this event but well worth the price to see these two great welterweights compete. Boxing has always been from the heart so this fight is up for grabs.
