Top 5 Kids’ Picks
A random, informal survey of Vegas kids turned up some interesting comments regarding their favorite things, hometown destinations and activities. In no particular order; here are their top 5 recommendations for visitors:
- Maria L., age 5, “….The Farm, because, I like the animals….Everybody should see Violet, Honey and ….. I want a goat mommy… .” Violet, Honey (and Bulldozer) are pigs. There are also chickens, cows, horses and other assorted critters present. The Farm, located at 7222 West Grand Teton Drive, has been a non-profit farm animal rescue for about 50 years and is sometimes a Vegas kid’s first encounter with genuine agricultural life. There is a Farmer’s Market on Saturdays and Sundays, Admission; $2/adults, $1/children
- Shaeyla K., age 7, “Water World at the Children’s Museum!!!…And my teacher!” You might not get to meet Shaeyla’s teacher, but Discovery Children’s Museum has something for everyone. Water World is just one of the many exhibits, both ongoing and traveling, that stimulates intellectual curiosity, imagination and creativity. Solve a mystery, invent a solution to a problem or put on a show at this fun and interactive experience which can be found using a GPS at 361 Symphony Park Ave. $12/person admission.
- Ryan B., Age 10, “The Pinball Museum is awesome. My dad and I went there and he showed me some of the games he used to play, so I played them too. Then I beat him!” It’s always fun to beat dad at his own game! ‘Nuff said. (1610 E. Tropicana, free admission)
- Trini H., age 12, “Pole Position!!! We had my brother’s birthday party there last month! This is not pole dancing lessons, but an indoor go-cart racing track for both adults and kids, located at 4175 South Arville, West of the strip. Trini’s mother points out that the junior cars, designed for kids age 6 to 12, will go up to 25 mph and you must be at least 48″ tall to drive them. They also offer a complimentary daily shuttle to and from the strip. Call 702- 227-7223 for more information.
- Emily G., age 4, “….The big Grasshopper and the playground…!” This would actually be the big Praying Mantis at the entrance to Downtown Container Park, 707 Fremont Street. This interesting area features unique shops and restaurants designed from large scale shipping containers, but the big attraction to Emily is the imaginative playground in the center of it all, as well as the ‘big grasshopper’ who shoots fire from his antennae on occasion.
